Industry veteran and entrepreneur Rodney King joins Aston Commercial as director of agency, bringing 30 years of sales, marketing and real estate experience to the commercial property space.

Commencing his career in real estate in 1989, Rodney King got his first taste of the exciting world of property with Birner Morley/Talbot Birner Morley (TBM),and sees his appointment at Aston Commercial as a homecoming journey.

“TBM Commercial later merged with Beller Commercial to form BellerTBM Commercial in 2011, which is now the revitalized Aston Commercial,” said King.

With the company’s rebrand and relaunch in early 2020, King was keen on helping Aston Commercial grow and expand, and decided to rejoin the real estate industry.

“I left real estate for a number of years to start up two companies, but even then, I remained strongly involved with property through buying, selling and developing. I do believe that once you develop a love for real estate, that passion never leaves,” said King.

Missing the interactive nature of a career in real estate, King felt it was time to bring the sales and marketing skills he acquired through his experience as an accomplished entrepreneur to Aston Commercial.

“While it was a fantastic experience starting up my own businesses, I missed spending time engaging with clients and vendors, and the exciting nature of a day-to-day real estate career where you never quite know what’s going to happen, what properties you will be looking at and what opportunities are going to come your way.

“I cut my teeth in the world of property at TBM, and I am really excited to be bringing my knowledge back to Aston Commercial today.”

King, who prides himself on his calm and considered approach, believes that honesty and providing sound advice is key to excelling in his role.

“I put my clients’ goals and priorities first. Sometimes I win a listing or get a great sale, and other times, I might actually point clients elsewhere if I genuinely feel that there are better options for them out there.”

With Victoria’s commercial real estate market set to open up again in the coming weeks, King believes that there is plenty of pent-up demand, and that businesses will be making changes that are reflective of our new environments.

“As businesses start to reopen, I believe many will be assessing where they’ve been, where they are today and where they need to be. We will see changes to office spaces in terms of sizes and locations, and industries like health, aged care and education will continue to flourish.”
